pet health questions
MLJ asked:

I got hooked into the Pet catagory on this site and I’m reading alot of questions about people’s pets that are looking for advice. I know personally that Vets can be expensive. But you don’t know who on this site is answering your questions especially about health related issues. CALL YOUR VET FOR THE BEST ADVICE FOR YOUR PET I’ve called my vet plenty with all kinds of questions……….and she answers me. Why, because my pets are seen by her. They’ll answer your questions and if they don’t find another vet. Simple. By the way I know that alot of people can’t afford to take there pets to the vets when something happens and you have to do the best you can….I don’t know if this is the best place to get your answers though, but then again I guess its better than nothing. Isn’t there an actual animal web site. If not maybe one should get started. MLJ

I agree! There are lots of sites that pet owners sign on to, sometimes I check them out when I’m bored, but the best advise always comes from the vet…

I know what you mean. But some of things questions have happened to other pet owner who could offer some advise based on what happened to their pet. There is always that disclaimer in every room don’t try this at home, seek professional help. I’m sure that therapists could help much more in a lot of these catagories, but it’s nice to get feedback from someone who has already been through the problem at hand, even animal problems.

I agree with you 100%. It might be interesting to see what others have to say, but I always contact my vet if I have any problems with my dogs. The thing that amazes me is the people get on here and ask a question, when their pet is actually in a dire emergency and needs vet care immediately. Makes me angry and sad. I know vets are expensive, but I am a firm believer, if you own a pet, you must be able to pay for adequate vet care. You owe it to that animal to take care of it. Just my 2 cents.

Many vets just as people Dr’s want to see the patient. This is the place for NON emergencies. If the pet is bleeding, unconscious, or not bleeding GO TO THE VET ASAP. Do not call just go!!!

There are many people here that have been pet owners their entire life. However that does not mean they know anything. I see answers from Vet Techs that are false. Many of these people are not vet techs

I know many of my answers can be quite rude and I also know there are other options to the answers I give. I give what I would do. Today I have my five dogs, Heartworm survivor, Parvo survivor, Evil little biter, And a fruit loop that if someone says her name she growls at them and my daughters rescued rott with separation anxiety if she isn;t around.

I also Have three fosters and a litter of 3 week old pups. That the momma is scared of her shadow and finally came in the house a few days before she started dropping them inthe yard. First momma that no one could get near but I was determined to save those babies no matter the cost. I do rescue and get over a hundred pets in my care a year. With more issues than you could possibly imagine. Many people answer to the experience with their pet but not all pets are the same.

Last year we rescued over 750 pets so in many cases I have not dealt with it at my house I advised others as to what to do or they have informed me of the situation. I work daily with animal control and basic laws that must be followed and know the ones that can and do vary by locality. I work with several different shelters and legit rescues that are not out to make a buck I have seen animals pulled out of puppy mills and I have seen the ones that someone paid a fortune for to discard like an old shoe.

I have been disgusted by what any normal person would consider gross abuse to see judges let it go. I have watch the so called wicked animal control officers brekdonw in tears as police officer shoot dogs they are trying to catch. From the answers that are given here very few people really know what is going on out there. Those that want to breed are exceptionally ignorant to the fact the ones that are the most abused are the purebreds. And they want to send more out there to live in this cruel world that is over run with hypocrisy and injustice.

Okay Ill get off my soap box but you are sop correct. Sometimes I get completely infuriated with answers and sometimes even more infuriated with ignorant questions.

I think when giving advice it is important that people have actually had experiences with what is in question. Or have done a substantial amount of research about what is being asked.

Lots of people have heard of ways to treat the specific problem but haven’t ever done it themselves. So they really don’t have any idea if it really is the best option or not. In certain situations seeing a vet is the best option for your pet.

As for myself I’m trying my shot at a pet web site it’s still a really young site but I’m trying my best.
